The COVID-19 pandemic has been one of the toughest challenges faced by the hospitality industry, leaving thousands of workers without stable income for months. Understanding the gravity of the situation, the Indian Flair Bartenders Association (IFBA) stepped forward to support those most affected, especially unskilled workers such as cleaners, servers, and dishwashers, who were left with very limited employment options.
Rohan Carvalho, President of IFBA, shared that many workers reached out in despair, with some even contemplating extreme steps due to financial hardship. This alarming reality pushed IFBA to take immediate action. Using their network and social media, IFBA created a structured process where beneficiaries could apply for assistance by filling out details through a Google form, along with identity and bank documents for verification. Verified applicants then received direct financial support via NEFT transfers.
Funds for this initiative were raised from within the hospitality community and through contributions collected on online platforms. The initiative not only provided relief to hundreds of struggling workers but also strengthened the sense of solidarity within the bartending and hospitality fraternity. The association continues to welcome contributions from well-wishers and industry members.
